Worldwide since 1970, Earth Day is celebrated on April 22 each year by focusing on the environment. In Mercer County this April, three separate events are taking place to help educate the public on environmental issues.
Munnell Run Farm is encouraging the public to “Get Outside, Let’s Go Hiking” on their April 21 Earth Day Celebration. Join the Mercer County Conservation District (MCCD) staff and local college students for a day designed to celebrate Earth Day by getting people outside to go hiking. The day will highlight activities showcasing the two newly-installed trail systems on Munnell Run Farm, an interactive interpretive trail and an orienteering course. The day will start with a ribbon cutting officially opening these two new additions, followed by interactive discovery stations showcasing each trail. A free lunch will be provided to participants. This is a family-friendly event. Although this is a free event, pre-registration is required by April 18. Call 724-662-2242 for details. Program will be held rain or shine. Please dress appropriately for outdoor programming that includes hiking. Munnell Run Farm is located at 753 Greenville Rd. Mercer, PA 16137. The event will start in the “Pig Barn.”
On April 22, Buhl Farm Park is set to host an Earth Day Event at the newly constructed Sandy’s Place – Outdoor Environmental Learning Center at 715 Hazen Rd. Hermitage, PA. Kid’s environmental education programs, activities, and giveaways will be featured. There is no admission fee.
