Experience an inspiring ride on the Underground Railroad Tour on June 14, 2024

On June 14, 2024, join VisitMercerCountyPA for a ride on the Underground Railroad. Mercer County played a significant role in the history of the Underground Railroad, a network of secret routes and safe houses used by enslaved African Americans to escape to free states or Canada in the early to mid-1800s.

During the tour, you’ll have the opportunity to see the locations of two settlements: Liberia, a fugitive slave settlement, and Pandenarium, a free slave settlement.  A full lunch will be served at a safe house (The Gibson House). In addition, you will see other locations in Mercercountryside showcasing some of most picturesque landscapes in Pennsylvania. County where escaped enslaved people were hidden and learn about the heroic individuals who risked their lives to help them.

The tour will travel backroads through stunning countryside showcasing some of the most picturesque landscapes in Pennsylvania.
