Event Details

On Tuesday, May 24, 2022 at 6:30 p.m. the Grove City Area Historical Society and Museum will host its second FREE Speaker Series event.  Join us to hear a very unique presentation.  Vinson F. Skibo will present “Preserving Cooper-Bessemer’s Rail History.”  Learn how recent events unfolded and led to the preservation of two pieces of rail history from the Grove City Cooper-Bessemer facility, including the wheels from a 1924 steam locomotive tender and the factory’s 1956 35-ton General Electric diesel switcher.  The significance of Cooper Bessemer’s design of the FVAL engine block to the railroad industry, along with other pieces of related rail equipment, both saved and at one time lost, will also be discussed.  Don’t miss this fascinating presentation.  Refreshments will follow.

The historical society welcomes visitors and conducts free tours of the three-floor facility every Monday evening from 6-8 and Tuesday through Saturday from 12-3 p.m.  Visit our location at 111 College Avenue, Grove City, PA or visit us online at www.grovecityhistoricalsociety.org.
