Country Hits Featured in ACTS Production of ‘Honky Tonk Angels’ in Downtown Sharon

The ACTS Performing Arts Center in Downtown Sharon is thrilled to announce its upcoming production of “Honky Tonk Angels,” a musical celebration of the female stars of country music. Opening on June 21 for a limited engagement, this delightful, foot-stompin’ musical blends 30 well known classic country tunes into a hilarious and heartwarming story about three determined women who set out to better their lives and chase their dreams to Nashville.

Under the expert direction of Ron Sinesio, “Honky Tonk Angels” brings to life the spirited journey of these three gutsy gals. The show features an all-hit song list, including beloved classics such as “I’ll Fly Away,” “Stand by Your Man,” “Coal Miner’s Daughter,” “Ode to Billy Joe,” “These Boots Are Made for Walking,” “Harper Valley PTA,” and many more. Each song is seamlessly woven into the narrative, promising an unforgettable experience filled with music, laughter, and emotion. Additional creative team members include Erin Morell as the show’s choreographer as well as Joseph Spurio who will be acting as musical director leading a live band.

Ted Swindley, the creator of “Honky Tonk Angels,” has been a pivotal figure in the theatre world for over twenty-five years. Known nationally for the hit musical “Always…Patsy Cline,” which debuted in New York in June 1997, Swindley has directed and/or produced over 200 plays. His remarkable career includes World Premieres, Classics, and Musicals such as “Pacific Overtures,” “Follies,” and “Cat on a Hot Tin Roof.” Swindley’s innovative approach to rotating repertory projects, like pairing Thornton Wilder’s “Our Town” with “The Skin of Our Teeth,” and “Dangerous Liaisons” with “The Importance of Being Earnest,” showcases his exceptional versatility and creativity.

“Honky Tonk Angels” is a testament to Swindley’s knack for creating compelling, music-driven stories that captivate audiences. This production is set to be a highlight of the season, offering a perfect blend of humor, heart, and country music, as ACTS closing production for the 2023-2024 Season.
