If you enjoy music with melodies that are fun for dancing, please join us at the Apollo Maennerchor, 291 South Dock Street, Sharon, PA, for a truly unique event. The 12th National Button Accordion Festival is this Memorial Day Weekend, Friday, May 25 to Sunday, May 27, 2018. Festival hours are Friday from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m., Saturday from 12 p.m. to 10 p.m., and Sunday from 12:30 p.m. to 9 p.m.
This is the largest button accordion festival in the country, and players come from all over the United States to perform. The Festhalle is a beautiful traditional ballroom with wood styling and a large dance floor. You can sit outside on the large patio where people gather to socialize or listen to individual players who may be exchanging songs.
There will be vendors selling a variety of related festival items. Homemade food from the Maennerchor kitchen and the best beers in town will be available all three days.
Free polka dance lessons are being offered on Saturday, May 26 at 10:30 a.m. in the ballroom. Lynda McPhail, professional dance instructor, will teach the polka dance class. The class is open to singles and couples, and children are especially welcome.
Memorial Day will be celebrated on Sunday, May 27 at 12:30 p.m. with a program honoring Veterans, followed by an accordion concert. Then the jamming and the Festhalle music and dancing start up and continue until the 9 p.m. closing. The Festival ends with the traditional Sunday evening “Grand Jam.” All the accordion players line the floor and play a longmedley together to end the weekend of music.
