Fall Backroads, Fall Foliage Tours

From mid-October through the end of October, you can enjoy the beautiful fall foliage sites in Mercer County. Located close to Pittsburgh, you can travel less than 90 minutes to experience the ultimate fall getaway.

With various great attractions and stunning displays of fall color, the Mercer County countryside is the perfect place to catch the fall sights.

Enjoy these self-driving tours through Mercer County:

Fall Foliage Tour 1: Rt. 208 Corridor – New Wilmington to Grove City

Explore the charming villages of New Wilmington, Volant and scenic countryside. Look closely for the small signs showing Amish homes and shops selling baked goods, handmade crafts, furniture, quilts and other unique items.  The Apple Castle, The Cheese House and several wineries/breweries are great stops. Head towards Grove City for Wendell August Forge and Grove City Premium Outlets. Then explore Keystone Safari and Fair Haven Farms for abundant opportunities for family fun.

Fall Foliage Tour 2:  Rt. 19 and Rt. 258 – Mercer to Clark

Start with one of two renowned Mercer County restaurants, Rachel’s Roadhouse and Iron Bridge Inn before heading to the historic Village of Mercer where you can enjoy various shops around the Courthouse Square. Don’t miss Coolspring Corn Maze & Farm Market. Travel the back roads along the Shenango River to Clark, home of Tara – A Country Inn. This luxurious inn offers the opportunity to escape from the ordinary with dining at Stonewall’s Tavern and picture-perfect vistas on the grounds. After a stop at Tara, cross over the bridge on Rt. 18 north and turn right onto East Lake Rd. This road showcases stunning fall foliage and leads to the beautiful gardens at DJ’s Greenhouse and Gardens.

Fall Foliage TOUR 3:  Sandy Lake to Jamestown

Enjoy a scenic 12 mile hiking and biking trail, water activities and beautiful fall vistas at Maurice K. Goddard State Park and Lake Wilhelm. Take the back roads to Jamestown, home of Pymatuning State Park. Carried Away Outfitters and Pymatuning Rentals & Information Center provide kayak and canoe rentals for a water adventure on Pymatuning Lake and the Shenango River Water Trail.

Fall Foliage Tour 4: Downtown Sharon to Greenville

Have fun traveling through a scenic mix of forested areas, farmlands and beautiful vistas along the Shenango River Lake from Rt. 846 just outside of Sharon to Rt. 18 in Greenville.   In Greenville, take time to enjoy the views at Riverside Park and The Shenango River Hiking/Biking Trail.

Downtown Sharon is a walkable area on the shores of the Shenango River with numerous shops and dining, family and friends will enjoy.
