The Guthrie Theatre announces their inaugural live performances scheduled for the 2019 / 2020 season in Mercer County, PA!
The iconic Guthrie Theatre in Olde Town Grove City, PA has once again opened their doors for the public to enjoy live entertainment! The Guthrie Theatre was built in 1926 as a live theatre venue but, between shows, it started to run silent films. From there it grew into a movie house, opening on August 1, 1927. Fast forward to 2019 and the Guthrie Theatre “The Queen of Broad Street” is once again featuring live performances.
The 2019 / 2020 season offers a mix of the classics along with celebrity concerts.
Kicking off the season on November 15th is a recent fan favorite on NBC’s “The Voice,” Pryor Baird. Pryor has woven a unique style of country and blues. Pryor’s gritty vocals, burning guitar licks, and powerful melodies are sure to get you out of your seats and moving your feet with his sound. Opening for Pryor is special guest band, “The Fellas,” a group of musicians from Grove City College, featuring Noah Voltz, Zachary Urbytes, Ethan Raynaud, and Peyton Brogan. December 13th – 15th, 2019 – Friday and Saturday: 7:00 PM; Sunday: 2:00 PM the Guthrie presents “Miracle on 34th Street.” When Susan’s mother hires an old man named Kris Kringle to play her department store Santa Claus, it sets off a chain of events that challenges an entire community’s beliefs about faith, human kindness, and–of course–Santa Claus. This classic is sure to get the entire family ready for the Christmas season! Admission: $12.
January 24th, 2020 – 7:00 PM, The Brilliance presents Suite No. 2 the World Keeps Spinning: An Antidote to Modern Anxiety. The Brilliance’s acoustic-electric, symphonic-pop songs invite you to step outside yourself; to see the world through the eyes of the other, the stranger, and those you may consider your enemy. The band is comprised of songwriter David Gungor and composer John Arndt, who crafted the new album in collaboration with Biola University Orchestra and Chorus. February 14th, 2020 at 7:00 PM the Guthrie welcomes Carlene Carter the daughter of June Carter Cash and country star Carl Smith, and stepdaughter of Johnny Cash. Carlene Carter has been performing music for almost four decades. She is the embodiment of the Carter family in the 21st century. March 13th – 15th, 2020 brings us “Fools” – A Comedy by Neil Simon. It’s a great day for Leon Tolchinsky– he has landed a terrific teaching job and even meets the girl of his dreams. But when he discovers that his new town has been under a Curse of Chronic Stupidity for 200 years, things get more complicated. Friday and Saturday: 7:00 PM; Sunday: 2:00 PM. Admission: $12.
On April 17th, 2020 at 7:00 PM the Bumber Jacksons, with their sweet and playful mixture of roots, Americana, and jazz, have been honored multiple times as the Mid-Atlantic’s “Artist of the Year” & “Best Traditional Band” at the Washington Area Music Awards. The Bumper Jacksons bring you into the center of a party where everyone’s invited and the dance floor never sleeps. With Special Guest, Savannah Brister of NBC’s “The Voice. “Into the Woods” on May 22nd – 24th, 2020. You never know what’s waiting on the journey in this enchanting and darkly funny twist on the Brothers Grimm. The story follows a Baker and his wife, who wish to have a child; Cinderella, who wishes to attend the King’s Festival; and Jack, who wishes his cow would give milk. When the Baker and his wife learn that they cannot have a child because of a Witch’s curse, the two set off on a journey to break the curse. You may get your wish, but are you certain what you wish is what you want?
