Important Updates for the 2025 Lake to Lake Paddle Challenge

If you’re looking for an unforgettable summer adventure in western Pennsylvania, mark Saturday, August 23, 2025, on your calendar.
The 4th Annual Lake to Lake Paddle Challenge is returning to the scenic Shenango River Water Trail, and this year brings an update: a brand-new 15-mile Sprint Competitive Challenge Race replacing last year’s 30-mile Competitive Race due to safety hazards on the Upper Shenango River Water Trail.

Whether you’re a seasoned racer or a first-time paddler, this celebrated event invites adventurers of all skill levels to experience the unmatched natural beauty of Mercer County from the water.

What is the Lake to Lake Paddle Challenge?

This annual event is a timed paddle craft challenge that offers both competitive and recreational paddling experiences. Participants can choose between two 15-mile  races:

15-Mile Sprint Challenge (Competitive Class): Designed for seasoned paddlers, this race starts at Kidd’s Mill Covered Bridge and concludes at NorthStar Marina on Shenango River Lake. With $7,900 in cash prizes up for grabs, it’s a thrilling test of speed and endurance.

Note: Watercraft under 14 feet and outriggers are not permitted in this class.

15-Mile Adventure Challenge (Recreational Class):  Ideal for those seeking a more relaxed journey. This non-competitive paddle follows the same route, allowing participants to soak in the serene surroundings at their own pace.
Both courses benefit from a guaranteed water release at Pymatuning Dam, ensuring optimal paddling conditions.

Experience Mercer County’s Natural Beauty

The Shenango River Water Trail, classified as a Class I waterway, meanders through lush landscapes, offering paddlers picturesque views of Pennsylvania’s countryside. This tranquil setting provides an ideal backdrop for both competition and leisure.
