Event Details

The Grove City Area Historical Society will host the first of its Fall Speaker Series events. Join us for the last half of the presentation by Vinson Skibo, an expert historian of Cooper-Bessemer’s rail history. This presentation will focus on the preservation of the steam engine tender tracks and the Cooper-Bessemer shop locomotive. Last Spring’s presentation, and the upcoming Fall event, are independent of each other although those who attend will no doubt come away with reactions similar to those heard after last Spring’s offering like “we had no clue that Cooper was such a critical part of the history of rail development in our region.” Cooper-Bessemer’s design of the FVAL engine block was significant to the prosperity of the railroad industry so mark your calendar.
Remember also that the historical society is still open through early December when they will close until April. Volunteers are available for free tours and to answer questions on Monday evenings from 6-8 and Tuesday through Saturday from 12-3. Stop in and be amazed or visit us online at www.grovecityhistoricalsociety.org.
