Celebrating agriculture’s key role in our nation’s history!

The Mercer County Agriculture Development Committee invites you to celebrate agriculture in Mercer County through a self-paced guided tour with activities for all ages.

What is America 250PA? The Pennsylvania Commission for the United States Semiquincentennial (America 250PA) was established by the PA legislature and governor in 2018 to plan, encourage, develop, coordinate the commemoration of the 250th anniversary of the founding of the United States of America, Pennsylvania’s integral role in that event, and the impact of its people on the nation’s past, present, and future. In January 2025, Mercer County will begin celebrating the 250th anniversary of the United States by acknowledging our history through events designed to engage Mercer County residents and recognize the contributions of everyone from our agricultural community to our economic sector.
The American 250PA-Mercer County Advisory Committee has planned over 20 events and activities for Mercer County Residents of all ages. Including tours, contests, podcasts, musical performances, parades, confetti cannons, virtual games, fireworks and more. The Advisory Committee along with their partners have designed the events to encourage county residents to educate, celebrate and preserve the rich history of our nation and Mercer County. The committee has partnered with The Mercer County Agricultural Development Council to celebrate agriculture in Mercer County. On August 9, 2025 from 12pm to 4pm, we will host the America250PA-Mercer County Ag tour day. The self-paced and self-guided tour will include three stops that all highlight why Ag is so important throughout Mercer County. The three stops include:
DJ’s Greenhouse- tours of the garden will be available
McCullough Grain- tours of the grain facility and farm will be available
Jefferson Township Fair- “Touch A Tractor- Equipment through the ages”, and various agricultural promotion organizations
Our goal of the America250PA-Mercer County Ag tour day is to highlight the following:
– The impact of agriculture on the United States
– The US’s large scale economy started Ag
– Ag and the Ag community is one of the key pillars of Mercer County
– The importance of the Ag community to Mercer County and its residents
– The impact of Ag education
We want to encourage all Mercer county residents to learn about Ag and the ways they can be involved as well as see all of the hard work the Ag community has done and continues to do on a daily basis.
