Buhl Farm Park’s creation began in the early 1900s by millionaire industrialist Frank Buhl. Frank and his wife Julia wanted to share their wealth in the community of Sharon. They saw a need for recreational and cultural institutions in the area, so between 1907 and 1911, Frank Buhl purchased seven different parcels of land, totaling 262.66 acres, in Hermitage, bordered by Sharon and Sharpsville.
Over the course of four years, the land was developed into the outdoor recreational Park Buhl Farm. Mercer County, PA locals, who have grown up near the Park and have learned a variety of skills from how to swim to how to play golf. With a seven-acre lake for fishing, canoeing, and kayaking to four and a half-miles of paved private roadways for walking the dog, running, and biking, the fun at Buhl Farm Park is endless.

The Buhl Farm Park Golf Course & Driving Range is America’s only free 9-hole golf course featuring scenic views and well-maintained rolling greens that can all be enjoyed with no cart fees or green fees. The Park also features a Trackman indoor golf simulator, where you can play golf virtually, trying your luck on some of the world’s most famous greens such as PGA National or Royal Portrush.
Buhl Farm Park is the premier location for 1 of only 3 designated regulation-sized pickleball courts in Western, PA. This 2-4-person player game is a paddleball sport that combines elements of tennis, badminton, and table tennis. The Track, established in 2018, is made up of a paved pump track that leads to 5 miles of mountain bike trails. The Buhl Farm Pump Truck is 1 of only 10 asphalt tracks in the nation and is home to the Pump Track race series for all ages.
This pump track is designed specifically for off-road cycling, featuring twists and turns, as well as banked turns. The Park’s mountain bike trails feature just over 4 miles of single-track dirt mountain bike trails with beginner, intermediate, and expert trails all featuring jumps and downhill runs.
Buhl Park is home to Pennsylvania’s longest disc golf hole, measuring over 1,000 feet. Established in 2015, the Disc Golf Course, a championship level course, features 54 natural tee pads. This course features multiple baskets locations to provide a fun yet challenging experience for players.
Newly renovated in 2017, with a unique concrete surface, the Buhl Park tennis courts serve as home to two local boys and girls high school tennis teams and a place where locals and tourists alike can visit and enjoy an exciting game.
Fitness and the great outdoors make a great pair. Enjoy both on the Park’s fitness trail that is equipped with stations to provide stretch, muscle development, and cardiovascular conditioning. The 9/10-mile-long trail follows a scenic winding path through the trees and the wetland for a truly enjoyable workout.
The outdoor community pool is a great place to beat the heat and relax in the summer sun! The pool is equipped with a diving board and rock wall, with lap swimming and pool activities scheduled throughout the week during the summer. The pool is open to everyone for only $5 per day from Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day.
Julia’s Cafe is open and available during pool hours to all park-goers and features various food and refreshments to quench your thirst and keep you fueled throughout your day of outdoor recreation!
Buhl Farm Park features multiple playground locations and swings throughout the Park that accommodate ages 2-5 and 5-12. There is an All-Inclusive Playground, Nature Explore Playground, Polly’s Playground (ages 2-5), and an Outdoor Musical Playground.
The Outdoor Environmental Playground for kids is a large environmental initiative featuring a large reconstruction of wetlands, a lake area, new buildings, and walkways. This playground will serve as a place to teach kids how to be outside and be in nature, using a scientific approach to teach them these things.
Part of this project features a nature trail, wetland restoration, and the construction of an environmental building were the Park can host field trips from local schools and educational groups as well as those within a 60-mile radius with talks of expanding that further out.
Students can go on a walk through the nature trail, which features various signage that will educate them on a range of topics along the way. In the wetlands, students can learn about environmental topics, wildlife, plant life, and waterways. The Park is hoping to make this more than just community initiative with the Outdoor Environmental Park. The goal is to provide exciting opportunities not only for students but across the board for locals and tourists as well.
Baseball is a classic game that many people enjoy. Unwind with a friendly game or get some practice swings in at the Buhl Farm Park baseball field. The Park has plans for an infield renovation of the baseball field that will make the field multi-use to accommodate different levels, including Softball, Little League, PONY League, and High School/Adult and will also feature portable and movable bases to accommodate each level, making it a great place for adults and children to play!
In addition to all of the outdoor adventure opportunities in the Park, Buhl Farm Park also features an art and cultural area where they have hosted a free summer concert series for over 50 years. The Park brings in bands from Cleveland and Pittsburgh, drawing in large crowds every summer.
