On Monday, May 28, 2018, see 500 flags, plus hero banners flying proudly in the town of Mercer honoring veterans throughout the region at the 16th Annual Mercer Memorial Day 500.
Six veterans will be honored, three living and three posthumous. The living honorees are Sgt. Clare “Butch” Blair, U.S. Army – Vietnam; Lt. Colonel Larry D. Sheetz, U.S. Army – Iraq / Kuwait / Afghanistan; and Sgt. Debra Thomas, U.S. Army. Posthumous honorees are Sgt. Charles W. Gregg, U.S Army – Vietnam; Sgt. Clifford E. Gregg, Jr., U.S Army – Vietnam / Pacific Basin; and Corporal Forest Daniel Gregg, U.S. Marines – Korean War.
