"Art Meeting the Child's Imagination
Jim Burke has illustrated a number of lauded picture books. including “Take Me Out to the Ball Game,” which he also wrote to coincide with Jack Norworth’s 1908 lyrics, and “My Brothers’ Flying Machine: Wilbur, Orville and Me,” by Jane Yolen, which won an Oppenheim Toy Portfolio Gold Award and a Parents’ Choice Gold Award. Jim’s eagerly anticipated “All Star! Honus Wagner and the Most Famous Baseball Card Ever,” also written by Jane Yolen, will be published in March. Burke has won numerous accolades for his paintings, including a Gold Medal from the prestigious Society of Illustrators in New York City. Burke, his wife and their young daughters live in Manchester, N.H., where he is the chairperson of the Illustration Department at the New Hampshire Institute of Art. "A Holocaust Survivor Speaks"
The Holocaust Center of the United Jewish Federation of Greater Pittsburgh presents Herman Snyder, a Holocaust survivor who will share his personal experiences. The Holocaust Center aims to transform attitudes and behaviors by recognizing, understanding and remembering the atrocities of the Holocaust. This speaker is presented in conjunction with the Smithsonians's "Schindler" traveling exhibit, which is currently at the Thiel College library and runs through April 7. |
